05: Workshop radio documentary with Hajar Benboubaker

Borrowing from both radio journalism and creative documentary filmmaking, the radio documentary has become a creative field in its own right. Like documentaries, it calls for full immersion in the filmed or recorded reality. Shaping this reality is a highly demanding writing exercise, involving interviews, music, sound effects and moments of silence, all used to inform the listener while still evoking emotions and reflections.

Hajar Ben Boubaker

Hajar Ben Boubaker was born in Paris into a Tunisian family. After studying political sociology, she undertook a research project on the history of North African immigration to France, devoting herself to the audio records of this history, in particular the music that narrates it. This led her to create Vintage Arab in 2018, a podcast dedicated to Arab music, which she advocates should no longer be categorized as world music, but as music born out of important socio-historical contexts.
