08: WORKSHOP DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY WITH SEIF KOUSMATE

08: WORKSHOP DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY WITH SEIF KOUSMATE

Du 22 au 26 février 2022

Documentary photography is a practice that uses realism in images to describe social and political situations. It is practiced by photojournalists and photo reporters who work for photography agencies or for the press, but also by artists and amateurs who bring the poetry of reality into their work. In this workshop on documentary photography, participants will learn how to observe and question the environment around them, how to shape their points of view, and how to capture reality with a camera.

Seif Kousmate

Seif Kousmate is a self-taught photographer whose work focuses on social issues. He has developed a visual language that lies halfway between documentary and poetic photography. After a career in the civil engineering field, he devoted himself professionally to photography in 2016. Since then, he has been working on the theme of marginalization in our societies. For three years, Seif worked on Sub-Saharan migration at the land border between Morocco and Europe, where he spent several weeks working in immersion. He also worked on the topic of traditional slavery in Mauritania and on Rwandan youth in 2018 and 2019. Since 2020, he has been working on the impact of global warming on oases in Morocco.

Seif Kousmate was selected by World Press Photo and is a grantee of the ADPP (Arab Documentary Photography Program) in partnership with Magnum Foundation and Prince Claus Fund. His work has been exhibited in Europe and Africa, and he collaborates with international magazines and newspapers such as Le Monde, The New York Times, Newsweek, Libération, The Guardian, El Pais, NZZ and others. In 2020 he co-founded the KOZ collective in Morocco with three other Moroccan photographers.
